A visit to the Batwa Community in Uganda
Historically, the Batwa are a Ugandan tribe of forest-dwelling hunter-gatherers, now an endangered indigenous groups living near Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga National Parks.
We partner with official tour providers for all Batwa community visits, ensuring that these visits are run by the Batwa themselves. This helps in ensuring cultural sensitivity while directly benefiting the Batwa people. This is part of how we practice responsible tourism as we create all of our community and cultural tours in Uganda.
During the Batwa community visit, you will experience:
- displays of fire-making, hut-building, and traditional hunting methods
- music dance and drumming demonstrations
- nature walk near the tribe’s village, complete with cultural demonstrations
Visit Bigodi Community & Wetlands Walk in Uganda
The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is a community development effort located near Kibale Forest National Park. The sanctuary was created to protect the former Magombe Swamp and is now considered one of the prime birdwatching areas of Uganda.
A visit to the nearby Bigodi Women’s Group offers a chance to explore traditional African crafts while supporting the local women’s group, directly.

A visit to Nshenyi Cultural Village in Uganda
Nshenyi Cultural Village in Ntungamo district, western Uganda offers visitors a great opportunity of learning about the Ankole culture. This is done while enjoying the breathtaking sceneries of western Uganda’s farmlands.
The village is located in Ntungamo district, in about 1- hour’s drive from Mbarara in western Uganda. That’s about 7- hours from Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
During the Nshenyi Cultural Village homestay, you can opt to: –
- take part in the day’s farm chores–including milking the cows – both morning and evening, making ghee, or culturing local ‘yogurt’ ‘eshabwe’
- tour the farm and homestead
- visit a community school
